DH3 is a light-hearted social running and Hashing club that jogs, sprints and walks on trails throughout the Surrey and Hampshire countryside, generally within the limits of OS Map 186.
Anyone, from any walk of life, age or fitness is welcomed (including dogs).
We meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month, and throughout the year, at 1100.
Based on old-fashioned “Hare and Hounds” paper chases, Hashing is a cross-country run and amble between 3-5 miles long that usually takes about an hour, using a trail of flour or sawdust, set by one or two people beforehand, known as "Hares". The rest of the runners and walkers, known as “Hounds” then attempt to follow the trail trying to find their way back to the start. This group of searchers are known as the "Hounds".
Young and old can take part and you run or walk at your own pace. Trails are ingeniously designed to keep everyone together. Families are very welcome to participate and it’s a great way to exercise a (reasonably) well-behaved dog.
We generally try to start and, importantly, end trails at a suitable pub that has good beer and food for a sociable drink, food and chat afterwards.
It's a fun activity, and not to be taken at all seriously!
Hashing started in Kuala Lumpur in 1938 and, since then, has grown into a world-wide phenomenon. You’ll find a welcoming Hash almost wherever you go on the globe.
